Best Air Fryer Toaster Oven (2026)

The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is the best all-rounder and the one most labs name. If air-frying speed matters more than size, the Cuisinart TOA-70 is quicker at it and costs less.

Picture a holiday dinner: the turkey owns the big oven, and the rolls, the green beans and a tray of stuffing all need somewhere hot to go. That’s the job an air fryer toaster oven does well. On an ordinary Tuesday it reheats pizza without warming the whole kitchen.

One thing to know up front: it won’t out-crisp a basket air fryer. America’s Test Kitchen found oven-style air fryers harder to use and less impressive at air frying than drawer models, and RTINGS measured clear speed differences between the ovens it tested. Buy one for versatility, and choose by what you’ll cook most often. If crispy fries are the whole point, a basket air fryer is the better tool.

Quick pick

The 4 best air fryer toaster ovens

Best overall

Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro Model BOV900BSS

The countertop oven most testers rank first: big inside, even heat, and enough modes to sideline the wall oven.

Most countertop ovens make you choose between toast quality and capacity. This one does both. Its 1-cubic-foot interior (16 × 13.5 × 7 inches) takes nine slices, a 13-inch pizza, a 9×13 pan or, Breville says, a 14-pound turkey. Food Network has named it best overall since a 2022 update, Forbes Vetted picks it too, and RTINGS calls it the best big model it has tested.

Breville’s Element iQ system moves power between the heating elements, and a super-convection setting pushes more air for air frying and dehydrating. RTINGS still found it slower to air fry than the Cuisinart TOA-70, though just as even. Practical notes: it draws about 15 amps, the interior light switches on when a cook ends, and the box includes a mesh air-fry basket, two racks, a 13-inch pizza pan and an enamel roasting pan.

What works

  • Fits a 9×13 pan and a 12-cup muffin tray
  • Even toasting across nine slices
  • Slow cook, proof and dehydrate modes
  • Listed with a 2-year limited warranty

What doesn’t

  • Air frying is slower than the Cuisinart
  • 21.5 inches wide, 17.5 deep
  • Priciest oven here ($399.95 list)

Skip it if counter space is tight

It needs real estate. The Ninja Flip stands up against the backsplash after use, and the Cuisinart TOA-70 is almost 6 inches narrower.

Best for air frying

Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven with Grill Model TOA-70

RTINGS’ top air fryer toaster oven: quicker air frying than the Breville, a grill plate included, and a 3-year warranty.

Speed is where the TOA-70 wins. In RTINGS’ testing it air fried faster than the much pricier Breville while staying just as even, and it fits a 12-inch pizza. Cuisinart rates it for 3 pounds of air-fried food, and it adds something the others don’t: a reversible ceramic nonstick grill and griddle plate for burgers, vegetables or pancakes.

It isn’t the toast champion; RTINGS says toasting isn’t its strength. The 60-minute timer also limits slow roasts and dehydrating. In its favor, Cuisinart backs it with a 3-year limited warranty, the longest of any oven here, and it comes in white as well as stainless and black.

What works

  • Air fries faster than the Breville (RTINGS)
  • Grill and griddle plate included
  • 3-year limited warranty
  • Comes in white, black and stainless

What doesn’t

  • Toasting is only fair
  • 60-minute timer cap
  • 0.6 cu ft limits roast size

Skip it if toast is your morning ritual

The Breville toasts more evenly and holds far more. For the smallest footprint, the Ninja Flip folds up after use.

Best for small counters

Ninja Flip Toaster Oven & Air Fryer Model SP151

Flips up against the backsplash when you’re done, so it hogs the counter only while it cooks.

This one solves a storage problem more than a cooking one. Cook flat, then tip the Flip onto its back and it stands against the wall; Ninja says that takes 50% less counter space. RTINGS rates it the best small air fryer toaster oven it has tested, calling it excellent for reheating and baking and good for air frying.

The cooking chamber is short. Ninja advertises a 12-inch pizza and six slices of toast; RTINGS fit an 11-inch pizza and four slices, and noted the chamber may not be tall enough for a whole chicken. Temperatures run from 85°F, low enough for dehydrating, up to 450°F.

What works

  • Stands upright for storage
  • Strong reheating and baking scores (RTINGS)
  • 85–450°F range
  • Air-fry basket and sheet pan included

What doesn’t

  • Too short for a whole chicken
  • Real capacity runs below the box claims
  • Needs clear wall space behind it to flip

Skip it if you roast whole birds or bake tall cakes

Choose the Breville, which takes a 14-pound turkey, or the two-rack Ninja Foodi XL Pro.

Best for two-rack cooking

Ninja Foodi 10-in-1 XL Pro Air Fry Oven Model DT201

A big Ninja oven that cooks on two racks without rotating pans.

Cook’s Illustrated tested this oven against its long-time favorite, the Breville Smart Oven Air, and listed both as its best air-fryer toaster ovens. The DT201’s trick is what Ninja calls True Surround Convection: two levels at once with no pan rotating, so a 5-pound chicken can roast above a sheet pan of vegetables, or two 12-inch pizzas can bake together. Ninja claims a 90-second preheat.

The display sits in the door handle and lights up the right rack position for each mode, a small thing you’ll appreciate every week. It’s large, at 20.2 inches wide and 17.1 deep. Cook’s Illustrated still gave the edge to the Breville for most people, pointing to its roomier interior in a smaller footprint.

What works

  • Two racks, no rotating
  • Fits a 12-lb turkey or two 12-inch pizzas (Ninja)
  • Rack-position guide in the handle
  • Ten functions

What doesn’t

  • Large footprint
  • Cook’s Illustrated still prefers the Breville
  • No grill plate

Skip it if you cook for one or two

It’s built for family-size trays. The Cuisinart TOA-70 or the Ninja Flip suit smaller households.

What to look for in an air fryer oven

Check the inside, not the outside

Exterior size tells you little. Ask three questions: does a 9×13 pan fit (the Breville takes one), does a 12-inch pizza fit (the Cuisinart and the two-rack Ninja do), and is there height for a whole chicken (the Flip’s short chamber isn’t)?

Expect slower air frying than a basket

Ovens move hot air around a bigger box. RTINGS found the Cuisinart TOA-70 air fries faster than the Breville, and America’s Test Kitchen found drawer air fryers beat oven-style ones for crisping. Plan on a few extra minutes and flip food halfway.

Mind the circuit

All four ovens here are 1,800-watt appliances, which works out to about 15 amps on a 120-volt outlet. Running one on the same circuit as a kettle or microwave is the classic way to trip a breaker.

Look at the timer and the toast

The Cuisinart’s timer stops at 60 minutes, which rules out long, slow roasts. If toast matters every morning, the Breville is the clear choice; RTINGS calls the Cuisinart’s toasting only fair.

Plan for cleanup

Mesh air-fry baskets trap crumbs and need a brush. Slide-out crumb trays (all four have one) make the daily wipe-down quick; line the baking pan under the basket to catch drips.

Air fryer or air fryer toaster oven?

America’s Test Kitchen’s Gear Heads compare the two styles head to head. Worth ten minutes before you spend $200 or more.

More worth watching:

Common questions

Is an air fryer toaster oven as good as a regular air fryer?

Not at air frying. America’s Test Kitchen got its best air-fried food from drawer-style models and found oven-style air fryers less impressive. An oven wins on everything else: toast, baking, roasting and capacity.

What is the best air fryer toaster oven combination?

The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro for most kitchens, named by Food Network, Forbes Vetted and RTINGS. For faster air frying at a lower price, the Cuisinart TOA-70.

Can an air fryer toaster oven replace a regular oven?

For most weeknight cooking, yes. The Breville fits a 9×13 pan and, per Breville, a 14-pound turkey. It won’t replace a full oven when you’re cooking several large dishes at once.

Breville or Ninja: which air fryer oven is better?

Breville for capacity and toast; Cook’s Illustrated prefers it for most people. Ninja for specific needs: the Flip stores upright on small counters, and the DT201 cooks on two racks without rotating pans.

Do air fryer toaster ovens use a lot of electricity?

They draw up to 1,800 watts. Thirty minutes at full draw is 0.9 kWh, about 16 cents at the 2026 U.S. average of roughly 18.2 cents per kWh (EIA forecast); actual use is lower because the elements cycle. Try your own numbers in the cost calculator.

What size air fryer oven do I need for a family of four?

About 1 cubic foot if you want whole chickens and 9×13 pans (the Breville), or a two-rack model like the Ninja DT201. The 0.6-cubic-foot Cuisinart handles 3-pound air-fry batches, which covers many four-person sides.

Do air fryer ovens need to preheat?

Most do, and they handle it for you. The Breville’s display shows when preheating finishes before the countdown starts, and Ninja claims a 90-second preheat for the DT201.

My take

Buy the Breville if this will be your everyday oven. Buy the Cuisinart if you mostly air fry and want to spend less. And if all you want is crisp fries, skip the oven and get a basket air fryer.

Hi, I’m Dana Keller, and I run The Best Air Fryer by myself — no team behind a curtain, and nobody paying to be called “best.” I’m a home cook, not a test lab, so I lean on the people who are labs: America’s Test Kitchen, RTINGS, Consumer Reports, Tom’s Guide and a handful of others. Add in the manufacturers’ own spec sheets and a small mountain of owner reviews, and that’s how these picks get made. Anywhere a claim isn’t my own, I link to whoever said it first.
